About CCTS

Like a lot of big, audacious ideas, CCTS was conceived by a small, committed group of people. Our group believed an urban university could rally its resources to help nonprofit organizations better serve their communities.

Each member of the group, nonprofit advocates, educators, and technology experts, held a special appreciation for the role nonprofits play in enhancing the quality of life for the public. We also shared a belief that the effective use of technology can create a positive tipping point in the development of individuals, organizations and communities.

So, in 2003, with the backing of the University of Baltimore, we started CCTS to help Baltimore area nonprofits increase their ability to use technology, strengthen their organizations and improve their service delivery.

At CCTS, we are committed to

  • Helping our nonprofit clients learn to manage and sustain the technology they need and become as self-reliant in their use of technology as is practical
  • Applying innovations in technology for social good
  • Bringing digital equity to all communities and schools in the Baltimore area
  • Introducing future IT professionals to the rewarding work of nonprofits

CCTS professionals consult with organizations to provide preliminary project assessment and feasibility studies, develop project implementation plans, offer vendor-neutral hardware and software system recommendations, and develop requests for proposals. We draw on the University of Baltimore’s faculty, graduate students and on external consultants to assist us with project management and implementation.

CCTS is focused solely on the building the technology capacity of Baltimore’s nonprofit organizations. As a non-profit ourselves, we understand the importance of maximizing an organization’s technology dollar. The CCTS business model was built with non-profit budgets in mind. We offer nonprofits a full range of quality technology services at below-market prices. The Center uses three sources to augment nonprofits ability to pay: UB sponsorship, funder subsidies, and student engagement.

Since we opened our doors in April 2003, we have grown both organically and strategically, mostly in response to the many conversations we have with people who like us, work in nonprofits and in support of them. We continue to listen and learn, keeping an ear out for advances in technology that may make it just a little easier for nonprofits to provide needed services, build alliances, explore ideas, and enrich lives.

We invite you to join in these conversations with us and with others.
